This home, which sits behind the historic Willow Grove Mill, was originally built in the 1800’s for the miller and his family. In the 1700’s this area was called Mundlesville and was the center of local activity before the town of Luray was established. One mile south of Luray, the Miller’s House nestles into the quiet rural setting of the valley. Pastureland, with cows grazing, frames a lovely view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A small rippling creek flows from the back of the property to feed into the Hawksbill Creek.
You will not be roughing it when you stay in this 2-story farmhouse. The house is immaculately maintained and tastefully decorated. The Miller’s house has the original pine flooring throughout, a large kitchen, laundry room and a fabulous screened in porch. The family room, with cable/DVD, master bedroom, and full bath are downstairs. Two additional bedrooms are upstairs. One room includes two twin beds and across the hall, you’ll find a double bed with TV and PlaystationTwo.
Because of its fantastic location, the Miller’s House can be used as a central hub from which to base a wide array of activities. The town of Luray offers many diversions including, antiquing, movies, and the world famous Luray Caverns. In the immediate area you can find skiing at Massanutten and Bryce Mountain, hiking or horseback riding in the Shenandoah National Park and George Washington National Forest, fishing, canoeing, tubing, kayaking or swimming in the Shenandoah River. History enthusiasts may enjoy a trip to New Market to see the Civil War Battlefields or a drive down Route 33 to see Montpelier, the home of James Madison, in Orange. Speaking of James Madison, the University is close by in Harrisonburg. Orchards and vineyards are also close at hand. Washington D.C. is about an hour and a half away and Charlottesville is about an hour. The valley and surrounding areas are rich in history and culture. The Miller’s House is also the place to put your feet up and get away from it all. Read a book, take a nap, it’s up to you.
